QJ Tool Company started in August 1972 in a 2-car garage in
East Berlin, CT with a total of 5 machines. From the beginning, QJ Tool’s main
goal was to provide a quality job. After 4 years, QJ Tool grew in the amount of
business being handled to the point where the company needed more room. In
1976, the business moved into a 4000 square foot leased facility and then in
1980 we bought our own building. During these early years, the main concentration
was on making cutting tools.
In 1982, we built an addition to the building and bought a ½
share in a CNC machining business. After nearly 10 years of working together,
the ½ share of the CNC machining company was sold; however, we continued to provide
precision machining services.
Larry and Cheryl Ernst bought the company in
1998. We subsequently changed the name to QJ Tool & Machining, Inc. to
accurately reflect the full business we provide; that is, supplying high speed
and carbide cutting tools and precision machining services. In late 1999 we bought a new
building that doubled the manufacturing space and moved the company into the
new facility in January 2000.
